Pre-Christmas at Mortimer & Bennett
October 2009 News
After a tough year for many, we are here to tempt you with some products that could be the start of your Christmas shopping basket. Everyone appreciates a well chosen gourmet foodie gift!
We have re-introduced some old favourites and added some new ones. Dan is particularly proud of an exclusive new range of Foie Gras from South West France. Also from the same area comes farmed sturgeon caviar and we promise you it will convince even the connoisseur that it is the real thing. Better still, it's from a sustainable source.
As ever we'll have a large range of Italian biscuits and panettone from master baker, and good friend, Piero Maribissi.
Why cross the channel to visit the traditional Christmas markets when from Germany's favourite baker, Kreutzkamm, we have in stock the delicious home baked flavour of the hazelnut cinnamon stars, almond kipfel biscuits and their wonderful Christstollen. Keeping with the same theme, we have hand decorated gingerbread Christmas decorations from Austria and Pain d'epice from France.
Also in stock will be Yorkshire relishes, fine chocolates from Prestat, Christmas cakes and puddings from Devon, salmon from Ireland and cheddar truckles from the Isle of Mull.
Speaking of which, and we don't like to blow our own trumpet (much), but we do think we have the best range of European farmhouse cheeses west of Marble Arch. Particularly good at the moment are the first of the Vacherin Mont d'Or of the season, and of course Stilton, which is coming in to its prime around now. Our Colston Bassett baby stiltons will be in the shop from the beginning of December, so watch this space for more information. Stocks are limited, so email us if you want us to put one aside for you.
There's more, of course - much more, but we'll have to invite you to visit the shop for the full experience. If you are looking for something in particular, call us and we can talk you through our range.
All these items, plus many more, will be in our Christmas section of the website which launches in early November.
Best wishes,
Dan Mortimer.
